Meet Mrs. Witvoet

Mrs. Laura Witvoet

Hi! I’m Mrs. Witvoet. I have taught elementary students for 26 years. My degree is Music Education k-8, and Elementary Education k-5. My graduate degree is in Arts and Curriculum. I have directed choirs, taught elementary music, assisted musicals, and wrote several school productions. I have also taught as a classroom teacher for 3rd grade as well as multi-age (1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades in one classroom). I have been trained in the Reggio Emilia Approach as well as several other curriculums including Capturing Kids Hearts.

But my true love is music. I believe students need the necessary foundations of music when they are young to expand their musicianship and grow a love for music.

My philosophy is to build foundational knowledge that will provide accurate musicianship and create a sense of play and joy at each lesson. “Recitals” are more of a chance to share what each student has learned but I aim to keep this a time of encouragement and sharing rather than anything stressful.

Group time will be included as a way to encourage each other and provide that necessary collaboration to encourage the child’s motivation to grow musically.

I will be teaching semester-style so that allows students to take a break if necessary. Over scheduling a child is so easy to do. I’m hoping this schedule allows students to take a break when necessary. This also allows students to try other instruments during their lesson time.

I have researched and piloted the curriculums I will be using, and I have seen vast growth in my students who have been taught using these materials. I have all materials available for individual purchase based on each child’s need. Because a healthy routine is necessary to develop any skill, I will assist students with fun ways to practice and set up the practice folder so it is easy for them to be independent through the week.

However, my younger students will need parent support through the week to be successful. This will all be explained during the first lesson and requires no more than 10-15 minutes a couple times during the week.

I can’t wait to sing, play, and create music with your child!
