Meet Miss Cathy

Miss Cathy Johnson

Hello! My name is ‘Miss Cathy” Johnson, and I am thrilled to be teaching Acoustic and Electric Guitar at Melody Rose Studios.  From the time I have been in the studio, I  have enjoyed every minute with my students.  Their enthusiasm, dedication, and talent continue to amaze me every session.  I have loved music all my life, participating in many choirs, and received my first guitar at 16, which I still own.  I played that guitar in College, at Girl Scout Activities, in my daughter’s classroom, and at church as a Worship Leader for many years.  I love all genres of music with a few exceptions:)

My students have diverse musical styles and are eager to learn various techniques.  We start with the basics:  parts of the guitar, notes of our 6 strings, notes on each of those strings, and where to find them on the piano. Then we move into chords, strumming patterns, and learning to read guitar tablature.

We use a Hal Leonard Curriculum with many supplemental materials to reinforce what we are learning.  Their progress will be a direct result of how much they practice, which can be just 15 minutes 5 days a week.   Each lesson is based on the individual needs of your child, and we progress at a comfortable pace. Listening to music at home will help them hear chord changes and strumming patterns, and playing along with the tracks in our book will help with timing.

My goal is that they enjoy themselves, build confidence in their playing ability, and instill a lifelong love of music.
